About Walhallow
Walhallow is a vast rural locality in the Western Downs region of Queensland, situated approximately 80 kilometres west of Taroom and 500 kilometres northwest of Brisbane. Covering an enormous area of around 727 square kilometres, it is an extremely sparsely populated pastoral district in the semi-arid inland plains of central Queensland. The locality lies in the upper Dawson River catchment, characterised by open grasslands and brigalow scrub.
Walhallow is devoted almost entirely to extensive cattle grazing on large pastoral properties. The flat to gently undulating landscape is typical of inland Queensland, with scattered vegetation and seasonal creeks. There are no local services whatsoever — residents travel to Taroom (80 km) or Injune for basic supplies, or to Roma or Miles for more comprehensive services. The locality suits those committed to a remote pastoral lifestyle in the Queensland outback.
Walhallow falls under postcode 4462 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Warrego electorate.
