About Wamuran Basin
Wamuran Basin is a small rural locality in the City of Moreton Bay, Queensland, situated approximately 60 kilometres north of Brisbane and around 10 kilometres west of the Caboolture township. With a 2021 Census population of 199, the community is tightly knit and occupies just under 12 square kilometres of gently undulating rural land. The locality takes its name from a local Aboriginal man, Menvil Wamuran, and has had a formal presence since Basin State School opened in 1920. It falls within the state electorate of Glass House, reflecting its position at the foot of the Glass House Mountains region.
Wamuran Basin shares the broader Wamuran area's strong agricultural heritage, with the surrounding district long associated with pineapple, strawberry, and small-crop farming. Residents enjoy a semi-rural lifestyle close to the natural attractions of the Glass House Mountains and the D'Aguilar Range, with the Bruce Highway providing a relatively direct route into Brisbane. Caboolture provides the nearest major commercial centre for shopping, healthcare, and services. The locality suits families and rural lifestyle seekers who value quiet surroundings and proximity to both the Sunshine Coast hinterland and the greater Brisbane metropolitan area.
Wamuran Basin falls under postcode 4512 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Glass House electorate.
