About Wangolina
Wangolina is a coastal agricultural locality in South Australia's Limestone Coast region, situated approximately 252 kilometres south-east of Adelaide and within the Kingston District Council area. With a 2021 Census population of 69 residents spread across 230 square kilometres, Wangolina is one of South Australia's more expansive but sparsely populated rural localities. The Southern Ports Highway passes through the area, connecting the coastal towns of Kingston SE to the north and Robe to the south, with the locality fronting onto Lacepede Bay and the Southern Ocean.
Wangolina's landscape is defined by its dual coastal and agricultural character: the majority of the land is used for farming — including potato, carrot, and onion seed production — while a strip of coastline is zoned for conservation. The locality takes its name from Wangolina Station, a historic pastoral property that shaped early European settlement in the area from the mid-1800s. Residents access everyday services in Kingston SE, which offers supermarkets, schools, and medical facilities, while the broader Limestone Coast region is renowned for its seafood, wine trails, and natural attractions including Coorong National Park.
Wangolina falls under postcode 5275 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Mackillop electorate.
