About Wasleys
Wasleys is a small rural town in the Light Regional Council area of South Australia, located north-west of Gawler and approximately 50 kilometres north of Adelaide. With a population of 885 at the 2021 census, the town covers an area of around 54 square kilometres of agricultural land in South Australia's productive mid-north farming district. Named after pioneer settler Joseph Wasley, who arrived in the colony in 1838, the town has a deep connection to South Australia's pastoral and agricultural heritage.
Wasleys is set within the broader Barossa and Light region, renowned for its wine production and rich farming heritage. Roseworthy Agricultural College — now part of the University of Adelaide — is located approximately 6 kilometres to the south, contributing an educational dimension to the district. The heritage Wasleys Hotel is a community landmark, and the town retains a strong agricultural character with grain farming and livestock grazing as the economic backbone. Residents rely primarily on Gawler and Roseworthy for shopping, schooling, and services, with Adelaide accessible in under an hour via the Sturt Highway.
Wasleys falls under postcode 5400 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Frome electorate.
