Wellstead is a small farming community in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, located within the City of Albany approximately 100 kilometres north-east of Albany along the South Coast Highway. Covering an expansive 432 square kilometres, the locality has a population of around 78 residents and was officially gazetted as a townsite in 1965. Named after the Wellstead family who settled in the area in the 1860s, it has a long agricultural heritage.
The surrounding district is predominantly used for cereal cropping, with Wellstead serving as a Cooperative Bulk Handling receival site during harvest season. The town retains a primary school and public library, providing essential community infrastructure for local families. Albany, the regional centre of the Great Southern, is a scenic hour's drive to the south-west and offers comprehensive shopping, medical, and educational facilities.
