The locality covers a large area of 66.7 square kilometres and had a population of 287 at the 2021 Census. Named for Sir John Eardley-Wilmot, Lieutenant Governor of Van Diemen's Land from 1843 to 1846, Wilmot has been a farming community since the late 19th century.
Surrounded by lush farmland, state forests, and the rolling hills of North West Tasmania, Wilmot is a quiet agricultural community with deep historical roots.
