About Wycheproof
Wycheproof is a small agricultural town in the centre of the Shire of Buloke in north-west Victoria, located 276 kilometres north-west of Melbourne and 136 kilometres north-west of Bendigo. The town had a population of 610 at the 2021 Census and covers a large surrounding locality of approximately 220 square kilometres. Sitting at 113 metres elevation on the Calder Highway, Wycheproof serves as the administrative hub of Buloke Shire and is the economic heart of a surrounding wheat-farming district.
Wycheproof holds a unique claim to fame as home to Mount Wycheproof, the world's smallest registered mountain, which rises just 43 metres above the surrounding plains and offers panoramic views from its lookout. The town has a proud sporting tradition with Australian rules football, a local horse racing club hosting the annual Mount Wycheproof Cup on Victoria Derby Day, and the Wycheproof Golf Club. The historic railway line still runs along the centre of the main street, lending the town a distinctive character, and the community has made notable efforts to attract new residents to its affordable, tight-knit rural lifestyle.
