About Yeagarup
Yeagarup is a remote and sparsely populated locality in the Shire of Manjimup, situated in Western Australia's South West region approximately 320 kilometres south of Perth. Covering an expansive 363 square kilometres, the locality is defined by its extraordinary natural landscape — encompassing much of the Warren National Park, the Greater Hawke National Park, and the coastal D'Entrecasteaux National Park along the Southern Ocean shore. With a 2021 Census population of just 92 residents, Yeagarup is one of Western Australia's least populated localities, characterised almost entirely by protected bushland, karri forest, and rugged coastline.
Yeagarup is best known for the iconic Yeagarup Dunes — the largest inland mobile dune system in the southern hemisphere, slowly advancing through the ancient karri forest near Yeagarup Lake within D'Entrecasteaux National Park. The locality draws nature lovers, 4WD enthusiasts, and bush walkers from across the state, with the Yeagarup Track leading to a remote ocean beach accessible only by four-wheel drive. Pemberton, roughly 12 kilometres to the north-east, serves as the nearest town for supplies, accommodation, and services, and is the gateway to the broader Southern Forests and Valleys tourism region.
Yeagarup falls under postcode 6260 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Warren-Blackwood (South West) electorate.
