About Yealering
Yealering is a small agricultural locality in the Shire of Wickepin, located in Western Australia's Central Wheatbelt approximately 221 kilometres south-east of Perth, between the towns of Wickepin and Corrigin. With a population of 91 at the 2021 Census, the locality is centred on the township of Yealering, which serves as a service point for the surrounding farming district. The name Yealering is of Aboriginal origin, first recorded in 1870 in reference to the lake beside the town, which remains the locality's most prominent natural feature.
Yealering offers a modest range of local services including a general store, hotel, and primary school, along with a recently refurbished community hall. The standout attraction is Lake Yealering, a natural lake on the edge of town with a caravan park and opportunities for swimming, canoeing, sailing, and water skiing. An 18-hole golf course alongside the lake draws visitors from surrounding Wheatbelt communities. The locality's railway heritage — it was once a siding on the Wickepin to Corrigin line — has given way to a quieter agricultural present, though the community spirit of the area remains strong.
Yealering falls under postcode 6372 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Central Wheatbelt (Agricultural) electorate.
