About Yerra
Yerra is a sparsely populated rural locality in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, situated approximately 30 kilometres west-south-west of Maryborough and 59 kilometres south-west of Hervey Bay. Covering a substantial 55 square kilometres, the area had a population of just 110 at the 2021 census, reflecting its character as a quiet agricultural district of the Wide Bay hinterland. The locality once had a railway station on the now-closed Gayndah line, and its former state school operated from 1912 until 1974.
Yerra retains a pioneering rural atmosphere, with the farming community and surrounding properties maintaining broad-acre agricultural traditions typical of inland Queensland. Residents rely on Maryborough for shopping, schools, medical services, and employment, as the locality has no commercial services of its own. The nearby Mary River catchment and bushland areas provide opportunities for fishing, four-wheel driving, and wildlife spotting, making the area appealing to those who value a quiet, self-sufficient lifestyle close to nature.
Yerra falls under postcode 4650 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Maryborough electorate.
