About Yoongarillup
Yoongarillup is a small rural locality in the City of Busselton, situated in Western Australia's South West region approximately 200 kilometres south of Perth. With a population of just 79 residents, it covers around 26 square kilometres of agricultural land near the Sabina River. The locality has a quiet, semi-rural character with low-density residential dwellings scattered across farming properties.
Yoongarillup carries a rich cultural history as the site of Western Australia's "Spanish Settlement", where eight families emigrated from Catalonia between 1906 and 1909 to farm the land, growing grapes, fruit trees, and producing wine. The locality takes its name from the Wardandi dialect of the Noongar language. Today, the surrounding Busselton–Margaret River wine region is internationally recognised, and residents enjoy easy access to Busselton's beaches, shops, and services approximately 15 kilometres to the north-west.
Yoongarillup falls under postcode 6280 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Vasse (South West) electorate.
