About Yoting
Yoting is a small rural town in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, situated approximately 183 km east of Perth and 19 km east of Quairading. The town was established in 1914 as a station on the Quairading to Bruce Rock railway line and covers an area of about 115.5 km². With a recorded population of just 17 residents at the 2021 census, Yoting is one of the most sparsely populated localities in the state.
The surrounding landscape is dominated by wheat and sheep farming, making agriculture the cornerstone of the local economy. Yoting features a grain receival point that serves the broader farming community, and the nearby Wheatbelt towns of Quairading and Bruce Rock provide essential services. The name Yoting derives from an Aboriginal term referencing a local well that appeared on maps as early as 1873.
Yoting falls under postcode 6383 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Central Wheatbelt (Agricultural) electorate.
