About Aldgate
Aldgate is a picturesque village in the Adelaide Hills, situated 21 kilometres southeast of the Adelaide CBD. Home to approximately 3,500 residents, this elevated suburb sits at 428 metres above sea level among native bushland and established gardens. The township was named after the famous Aldgate Pump Hotel, built by Londoner Richard Hawkins in 1859, which itself was named for the Aldgate Pump in London.
The village offers a charming blend of historic character homes, boutique shops, and popular eateries including the iconic Aldgate Pump Hotel with its family-friendly beer garden. Aldgate is home to Stangate House, a National Trust property featuring internationally significant camellia gardens. Residents enjoy a peaceful hills lifestyle with cooler temperatures, bushwalking trails, and a strong sense of community, while remaining accessible to Adelaide for work and amenities.
Aldgate falls under postcode 5154 and is governed by Adelaide Hills Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Heysen electorate.
