About Alonnah
Alonnah is the main service township on South Bruny Island, situated approximately 60 kilometres south of Kingston via the D'Entrecasteaux Channel ferry from Kettering, within the Kingborough Council area of Tasmania. With a population of 164, it is a small but pivotal locality for the island community, serving as the administrative and commercial hub for the southern part of Bruny Island. The area is characterised by a relaxed rural and coastal lifestyle, with the island's wide open spaces, farmland, and dramatic coastline defining its character.
Alonnah is the base for some of Tasmania's most celebrated natural experiences, including Bruny Island Cruises with its famous cliff-face wildlife tours, the Bruny Island Neck Game Reserve, and the island's renowned artisan food producers — oyster farms, a celebrated cheese factory, honey producers, and berry growers. The township has a general store, fuel, and essential services for both residents and the many visitors drawn to Bruny's pristine wilderness. Life here revolves around the natural world — fishing, farming, wildlife watching, and quiet coastal living make Alonnah a uniquely rewarding and unhurried community.
Alonnah falls under postcode 7150 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Franklin (Huon) electorate.
