About Angelo River
Angelo River is a vast pastoral locality in the Mid West region of Western Australia, centred approximately 80 kilometres east of Newman in the remote Murchison–Pilbara hinterland. Spanning nearly 14,000 square kilometres, the locality is named after the Angelo River, a tributary system that drains portions of the upper Gascoyne catchment. The area has an extremely small population and is predominantly used for large-scale pastoral leasing.
The economy and daily life in Angelo River are entirely shaped by station life, with cattle grazing on vast leasehold properties the dominant land use. There are no townships, shops, or services within the locality boundaries, with residents relying on Newman (to the north-east) or Meekatharra (to the south-west) for supplies and medical services. The remote outback landscape, featuring red rocky ranges and spinifex plains, attracts occasional outback travellers and four-wheel-drive enthusiasts.
Angelo River falls under postcode 6642 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the North West Central (Mining and Pastoral) electorate.
