About Aylmerton
Aylmerton is a small rural locality in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, situated approximately 7 kilometres north-east of Mittagong within the Wingecarribee Shire. With a population of just 195 people at the 2021 Census, it is one of the quieter villages in the Highland's northern fringe, sitting at an elevation of around 603 metres above sea level. The locality is characterised by farmland, rural properties, and scattered residences along country roads, with the only community infrastructure being a rural fire station.
Aylmerton offers a genuinely rural lifestyle set against the rolling green hills and cool climate typical of the Southern Highlands. Residents are a short drive from the township of Mittagong, which provides everyday amenities including supermarkets, cafes, and the Mittagong railway station on the Main South line to Sydney. The broader Southern Highlands region is known for its heritage villages, cool-climate produce, artisan food scene, and nature reserves, attracting tree-changers and weekenders from Sydney seeking fresh air and wide open spaces.
Aylmerton falls under postcode 2575 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Wollondilly electorate.
