About Bullio
Bullio is a tiny rural hamlet in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, located within Wingecarribee Shire approximately 34 kilometres west-northwest of Mittagong and around 109 kilometres south-west of Sydney. With a population of 79 at the 2021 Census, the locality is one of the smallest in the shire and is characterised by rugged sandstone terrain and dense bushland. Bullio borders the vast Nattai National Park and sits at the edge of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, lending it a distinctly remote and natural character.
The locality is deeply tied to its natural surroundings, with Wombeyan Caves Road passing through and providing one of the access routes to the stunning Wombeyan Karst Conservation Reserve. Nattai National Park, which adjoins Bullio, is known for its rugged bushwalking, sandstone gorges, and rich wildlife habitat within the Great Western Wildlife Corridor. There are no shops or services within the locality itself; residents depend on Mittagong and Bowral for everyday needs, and the area appeals to those drawn to a secluded rural lifestyle surrounded by World Heritage-listed landscapes.
Bullio falls under postcode 2575 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Wollondilly electorate.
