About Baking Board
Baking Board is a sparsely settled rural locality in Queensland's Western Downs Region, situated approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Chinchilla and around 300 kilometres north-west of Brisbane. With a population of 114 residents spread across 91 square kilometres, it is one of the more remote localities in the region, characterised by broad-acre agriculture and grazing. The area falls under the Western Downs Regional Council, which administers much of south-west Queensland's rural hinterland.
The locality is primarily agricultural, with properties dedicated to cropping and cattle grazing in keeping with the broader Western Downs character. An abandoned railway station — Baking Board railway station — marks a former era of rail connectivity through the region. Residents rely on nearby Chinchilla for shopping, schools, and essential services, while the Warrego Highway provides access eastward to Dalby and Toowoomba.
Baking Board falls under postcode 4413 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Warrego electorate.
