About Bannockburn
Bannockburn is a rapidly growing town in the Golden Plains Shire, located approximately 25 kilometres south-west of Geelong and 95 kilometres west of Melbourne in Victoria. With a population that has surged past 7,000, it is one of the fastest-growing communities in regional Victoria. Originally a small farming town named after the Scottish Battle of Bannockburn, it has transformed into a commuter suburb serving both Geelong and Melbourne. The demographics skew young, with many families with children.
Bannockburn offers an affordable entry point to the property market while maintaining a semi-rural feel with open spaces and views of the You Yangs. The town centre has a Woolworths, IGA, cafes, a community hub, and sporting facilities including an active football and netball club. New housing estates continue to expand, and infrastructure is catching up with demand. The nearby Moorabool River and Bruce's Creek provide green corridors, while the Bannockburn Heart cultural precinct has brought arts and community events to the town. It attracts young families and first-home buyers seeking space and value.
Bannockburn falls under postcode 3331 and is governed by Golden Plains Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Geelong (Western Victoria) electorate.
