About Barambah
Barambah is a rural locality in the South Burnett Region of Queensland, historically significant as the original name of the area that became the Cherbourg Aboriginal community. The locality sits approximately 250 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, near the town of Murgon, covering around 159 square kilometres of pastoral and timbered country. With a very small recorded population of around 46 people in the 2016 census, Barambah remains one of Queensland's most sparsely settled localities.
The area surrounding Barambah is characterised by cattle grazing, forestry, and the natural beauty of the South Burnett. Nearby Murgon (around 6 kilometres away) provides essential services including schools, a hospital, and shopping, while the historic Cherbourg community — one of Queensland's largest Aboriginal communities — is immediately adjacent. Barambah appeals to those seeking large rural landholdings and a quiet, deeply connected-to-country lifestyle.
Barambah falls under postcode 4601 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Nanango electorate.
