About Barangaroo
Barangaroo is a modern waterfront precinct and emerging residential locality on the western edge of the Sydney CBD, within the City of Sydney local government area. Named in honour of the Cammeraygal woman Barangaroo, wife of the Eora leader Bennelong, the precinct represents Sydney's most significant urban renewal project since the 2000 Olympics, transforming a former industrial container terminal into a vibrant mixed-use harbourfront development. With a current residential population of approximately 220 and covering just 0.22 square kilometres, Barangaroo is one of Sydney's most compact and newly established localities.
The Barangaroo precinct comprises three distinct areas: Barangaroo South, a high-density mix of premium offices, residential towers, restaurants, and retail; Barangaroo Central, a live-entertainment and dining hub; and Barangaroo Reserve, a 6-hectare harbourside parkland that has restored the natural sandstone headland. The precinct is served by the Barangaroo Metro station on the Metro City & Southwest line and Barangaroo Ferry Wharves, offering direct waterway access to the broader harbour network. With world-class dining, public art, and direct views across Sydney Harbour, Barangaroo appeals to high-income urban professionals and those seeking city-edge living at its most sophisticated.
Barangaroo falls under postcode 2000 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Sydney electorate.
