About Beadell
Beadell is a vast and sparsely populated locality in the remote outback of Western Australia, covering an extraordinary 73,227 square kilometres of desert and semi-arid terrain centred around coordinates 26°S, 125°E in the Gibson Desert region. The locality is named after Len Beadell (1923–1995), the legendary Australian surveyor, road builder, and explorer who constructed over 6,000 kilometres of outback tracks — including the famous Gunbarrel Highway and Anne Beadell Highway — that traverse this very landscape. With a recorded population of zero, Beadell is one of Australia's largest and most remote named localities, encompassing vast tracts of crown land, Aboriginal land, and desert wilderness.
Life in Beadell is the preserve of the most dedicated outback travellers, traditional custodians, and remote station workers. The locality forms part of the vast desert country of central Western Australia, home to remarkable desert ecosystems including spinifex grasslands, mulga woodland, and salt lakes. The famous Gunbarrel Highway — one of Australia's most challenging 4WD tracks — passes through the area and draws intrepid adventurers seeking true remote Australia. There are no permanent settlements, no public transport, and no services; self-sufficiency is an absolute requirement for anyone venturing into this landscape.
Beadell falls under postcode 6440 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Kalgoorlie (Mining and Pastoral) electorate.
