About Blythewood
Blythewood is a rural locality in the Shire of Murray, within Western Australia's Peel Region, situated approximately 85 kilometres south of Perth CBD and near the township of Pinjarra. With a 2021 census population of 85 residents across 42 square kilometres, it is a sparsely settled farming and lifestyle area on the traditional land of the Bindjareb Noongar people. The locality is notable for the heritage-listed Old Blythewood homestead, built between 1859 and 1861, which is one of the oldest surviving European structures in the Peel region.
The surrounding area is typical of the Peel Region's rural hinterland, with broad farmland, timber country, and properties ranging from working farms to hobby blocks. Pinjarra, the closest town at around 10 kilometres, provides essential services including shops, schools, and the Pinjarra railway station on the Australind line. Mandurah, the regional coastal hub, lies approximately 30 kilometres to the west and offers a full range of retail, health, and entertainment services. The South Western Highway is the main arterial route connecting Blythewood to Perth and the broader South West region.
Blythewood falls under postcode 6208 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Murray-Wellington (South West) electorate.
