Bogong Peaks Wilderness is a designated wilderness locality within Kosciuszko National Park in the Snowy Valleys region of New South Wales, situated approximately 317 kilometres south-west of Sydney. Covering an expansive 256 square kilometres of subalpine and montane terrain, the area forms part of the Australian Alps and is included in the park's UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The locality has no permanent population, existing solely as a protected natural environment managed by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. The name 'Bogong' references the Bogong moth — a cultural and nutritional resource for Aboriginal peoples for thousands of years.
Bogong Peaks Wilderness is a destination for experienced bushwalkers, mountaineers, and wilderness adventurers seeking remote alpine landscapes. The area features rugged granite peaks, snow gum woodlands, subalpine meadows, and pristine mountain streams. Access requires considerable preparation, with the nearest service towns being Tumut (approximately 50 kilometres north) and Tumbarumba (approximately 45 kilometres west).
