About Bolgart
Bolgart is a small rural townsite in the Shire of Victoria Plains, located approximately 116 kilometres north-east of Perth in Western Australia's wheatbelt region. Gazetted as a townsite in 1909, it takes its name from an Aboriginal word meaning 'place of water', a reference to a nearby spring first recorded by explorer George Fletcher Moore in 1836. The locality covers a vast 261 square kilometres and had a 2021 Census population of approximately 128 residents, reflecting the sparse settlement typical of the WA wheatbelt.
Bolgart is primarily an agricultural locality surrounded by grain farming and sheep grazing properties that define the Victoria Plains landscape. The historic Bolgart Hotel, built in the early twentieth century, remains a local landmark. The nearest service centre is Goomalling, approximately 31 kilometres to the east, offering a school, shops, and community services. The broader area is known for wildflower displays in spring, and the Drummond Nature Reserve lies nearby. Bolgart suits farming families and those drawn to the open skies and self-reliant character of WA's agricultural heartland.
Bolgart falls under postcode 6568 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Moore (Agricultural) electorate.
