About Bonnyrigg

Bonnyrigg is a densely populated suburb located 36 kilometres west of Sydney's CBD in the City of Fairfield. Named after a town in Scotland, it has a population approaching 10,000 residents spread across just 3 square kilometres. The suburb has deep roots as one of Sydney's earliest welfare housing areas, with historic sites including the Male Orphan School residence from 1803. Today it is undergoing significant urban renewal through the Newleaf Bonnyrigg project.

Bonnyrigg is one of Sydney's most culturally diverse suburbs, with Vietnamese, Chinese, Cambodian, Iraqi, and Assyrian communities creating a vibrant multicultural atmosphere. The area features Buddhist temples, diverse restaurants, and active community organisations. Bonnyrigg Plaza serves as the commercial heart, complemented by a PCYC, library, and local schools. The suburb is home to the Bonnyrigg White Eagles soccer club and attracts residents seeking affordable housing with strong community connections.

Bonnyrigg falls under postcode 2177 and is governed by Fairfield Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Liverpool electorate.
