About Bradshaw
Bradshaw is an expansive and extremely remote locality in the Victoria Daly region of the Northern Territory, covering approximately 14,163 square kilometres of rugged tropical savanna, sandstone escarpments, and seasonal floodplains in the territory's Top End. Located at roughly 16°S, 131°E in the Victoria River district, the area is most widely known as the site of the Bradshaw Field Training Area — a major Australian Defence Force live-fire training facility that encompasses much of the locality. With a recorded population of around 55, the locality's few permanent residents are largely associated with pastoral stations and defence operations.
The Bradshaw locality encompasses some of the most dramatic and unspoiled wilderness in the Northern Territory, with the Victoria River and its tributaries carving through ancient landscapes rich in Aboriginal cultural heritage and diverse wildlife. The broader region is known for excellent barramundi fishing, crocodile spotting, and remote four-wheel-drive adventures along the Victoria Highway connecting Katherine to Kununurra. Access to services is through the town of Timber Creek, approximately 100 kilometres south-west, which provides basic supplies, fuel, and the Timber Creek Police Station, while Katherine — the nearest major service hub — lies around 250 kilometres to the east.
Bradshaw falls under postcode 852 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Katherine electorate.
