About Bredbo
Bredbo is a small rural village in the southern tablelands of New South Wales, located along the Monaro Highway approximately 50 kilometres south of Canberra and 40 kilometres north of Cooma. With a population of around 390, it is a tiny community within the Snowy Monaro Regional Council area, spread over a large 246 km² locality. The village sits at an elevation of approximately 800 metres in the high country between the Australian Alps and the national capital.
Despite its small size, Bredbo is well-known as a stop along the Monaro Highway, with a traditional country pub, a small general store, and a strong community spirit. The surrounding landscape is characterised by open grassy tablelands, ideal for merino wool and cattle farming. Residents enjoy a peaceful, semi-isolated rural lifestyle with easy day-trip access to both Canberra and the Snowy Mountains, including ski fields in winter.
