About Broadmere
Broadmere is an extremely remote rural locality in central Queensland, situated within the Maranoa region approximately 90 kilometres north of Taroom near the Dawson Valley. Covering over 581 square kilometres, it is one of Queensland's largest and most sparsely populated localities, with just 38 residents recorded at the 2021 Census. The landscape is defined by open savanna grassland, brigalow scrub, and the seasonally variable creek systems of the Great Dividing Range's western slopes.
The economy of Broadmere is entirely agricultural, centred on extensive cattle grazing across large pastoral properties. Life here is deeply self-reliant, with the nearest township services located in Taroom or Wandoan, each roughly an hour's drive away. The community, though small, is part of the broader Callide electorate, and residents share the resilient spirit common to outback Queensland's station families.
Broadmere falls under postcode 4420 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Callide electorate.
