About Eurombah
Eurombah is a remote rural locality split between the Shire of Banana and the Western Downs Region in Queensland, located approximately 484 kilometres northwest of Brisbane and 121 kilometres northeast of Roma. With only 100 residents recorded in the 2021 census across a vast 997.5 square kilometre area, it is one of Queensland's most thinly populated localities. The district is known historically as the site of the 1857 Hornet Bank massacre, one of the most significant frontier conflicts of colonial Queensland. The Dawson Valley landscape features open woodland, dry grassland, and cattle grazing country.
Eurombah's economy is almost entirely based on grazing and broad-acre cropping, with residents being primarily station hands, property owners, and their families. The nearest service town is Taroom, providing basic retail, a hospital, school, and community facilities. The locality has significant historical interest for those curious about Queensland's colonial and pastoral heritage. Eurombah suits those deeply connected to the land and seeking a genuinely remote outback lifestyle far from urban pressures.
Eurombah falls under postcode 4420 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Callide electorate.
