About Bullarto
Bullarto is a small rural hamlet in central Victoria's Hepburn Shire, situated approximately 7 kilometres south-east of Daylesford on the Trentham Road and around 115 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 89 residents across an area of about 18 square kilometres, reflecting its character as a quiet, sparsely settled locality within one of Victoria's most celebrated spa country regions. The locality is surrounded by farming land and the edges of the Wombat State Forest, giving it a distinctly rural and bushland feel.
Bullarto is home to the historic Bullarto Hall and Goods Shed, and is notable as the current terminus of the volunteer-operated Daylesford Spa Country Railway, a tourist broad-gauge rail service running between Daylesford and Bullarto on Sunday tourist runs. The hamlet sits within easy reach of Daylesford and Hepburn Springs, with their mineral spas, galleries, cafes, boutique shops, and Lake Daylesford. The broader Hepburn Shire attracts weekenders and tree-changers drawn by its relaxed pace and natural surroundings, and Bullarto shares this character while offering a more secluded, off-the-beaten-path alternative.
Bullarto falls under postcode 3461 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Macedon (Northern Victoria) electorate.
