About Eganstown

Eganstown is a small historic locality in the Shire of Hepburn in central Victoria, situated along the Midland Highway a few kilometres west of Daylesford. The locality sits at an elevation of approximately 572 metres in the mineral springs country of the Central Highlands, covering around 21.8 square kilometres. With a population of 206 at the 2021 Census, Eganstown is a quiet, sparsely settled community that takes its name from John Egan, an Irish immigrant who secured a pastoral lease here in 1848. Originally called Blanket Flat, the locality was renamed Egan's Town in 1872 before becoming Eganstown around 1917.

Eganstown is closely tied to the broader Daylesford–Macedon Ranges tourism region, with the famous Deep Creek Mineral Spring and Corinella Spring located within the locality — part of the rich mineral spring network that puts the Hepburn Springs area on the map as a wellness and spa destination. The surrounding landscape is characterised by rolling bushland and pastoral properties typical of the Central Highlands. Residents rely on nearby Daylesford (a few kilometres east) for shopping, cafes, restaurants, the popular Hepburn Bathhouse and Spa, and services. The area appeals strongly to tree-changers and those drawn to the relaxed, artsy lifestyle of the Daylesford region.

Eganstown falls under postcode 3461 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Macedon (Northern Victoria) electorate.
