About Cherryville
Cherryville is a small hill town in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia, located approximately 15 kilometres east of the Adelaide CBD within the Adelaide Hills Council area. Sitting at an elevation of 493 metres in the Mount Lofty Ranges, it is one of the more elevated and historically significant localities in the Hills, with a population of around 125 residents. The area was established in the 1840s and takes its name from the native cherry (Exocarpos cupressiformis) trees that once grew abundantly in the district, later supplemented by horticultural cherry plantings.
Cherryville offers residents a classic Adelaide Hills lifestyle characterised by cool-climate gardens, rural outlooks, and the quiet charm of a well-established hill township. The locality is close to Marble Hill and several walking trails in the Mount Lofty Ranges, providing excellent opportunities for bushwalking and nature exploration. Despite its small size, Cherryville is within easy reach of Norton Summit and Houghton for local services, and the Adelaide CBD is a relatively short drive via the freeway. The area was affected by the 2013 Cherryville bushfire, reinforcing the importance of bushfire preparedness for Hills residents.
Cherryville falls under postcode 5134 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Morialta electorate.
