About Chiltern Valley
Chiltern Valley is a small rural locality in north-east Victoria, situated within the Indigo Shire approximately 280 kilometres north-east of Melbourne. Covering around 22 square kilometres, it sits adjacent to the historic goldfields town of Chiltern and is bordered by the Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park. The locality has a very small resident population and is characterised by dry sclerophyll bushland and grazing properties.
The nearby town of Chiltern provides the main services for residents, with its well-preserved Victorian-era streetscapes and heritage buildings a drawcard for visitors and history enthusiasts. The Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park, which surrounds much of the valley, offers excellent bushwalking, birdwatching, and nature experiences. Wodonga and Albury, approximately 45 kilometres to the south-east, serve as the major regional centres for shopping, healthcare, and employment.
