About Coochiemudlo Island

Situated approximately 40 kilometres south-east of Brisbane CBD, the island covers around 1.6 square kilometres and had a population of 850 at the 2021 Census. The island is accessible by a short passenger ferry from Victoria Point on the mainland, giving it a relaxed, semi-isolated character despite its proximity to metropolitan Brisbane.
Coochiemudlo Island — often called "Coochie" by locals — is known for its tranquil bayside lifestyle, sandy beaches, and strong community spirit. The island has a small cluster of local amenities including cafes, a community centre, and a general store, with more comprehensive services available in Victoria Point and Cleveland on the mainland. Its low density, car-free tracks, and beautiful bay views attract sea-changers, retirees, and families seeking an escape from suburban life. No private cars are permitted on the island via the ferry, reinforcing its peaceful, pedestrian-friendly character.
Coochiemudlo Island falls under postcode 4184 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Redlands electorate.
