About Coominglah
Coominglah is an extremely small rural locality in the North Burnett Region of Queensland, located about 32.5 kilometres northwest of Monto and 507 kilometres north-northwest of Brisbane. Covering over 204 square kilometres of Queensland outback, it had a population of just 12 residents at the 2021 census, making it one of the most sparsely populated localities in the state. The area sits along the Burnett Highway near the turnoff to Cania Gorge National Park, surrounded by brigalow scrub, dry eucalypt forest, and beef cattle properties.
Despite its tiny size, Coominglah serves as a gateway for visitors heading to Cania Gorge National Park — a scenic area known for its sandstone gorges, walking trails, and popular holiday park. The locality is dominated by broad-acre grazing and farming, with residents relying on Monto for all essential services including fuel, groceries, medical care, and schooling. Life here revolves around the land, with a strong rural community spirit common to small North Burnett settlements.
Coominglah falls under postcode 4630 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Callide electorate.
