About Coringa
Coringa is a small rural locality in Queensland's North Burnett Region, covering approximately 131 square kilometres of pastoral and agricultural land. With a population of just 86 residents as of the 2021 Census, it is one of the more sparsely settled localities in the region, situated around 80 kilometres south-west of Bundaberg. The Burnett River forms the locality's northern boundary, and the area is characterised by low-density rural living with properties spread across rolling farming country.
The western edge of Coringa is dominated by Paradise Dam, which impounds the Burnett River to form Lake Paradise — a significant local landmark used for recreational activities including camping, boating, and fishing. The dam site includes picnic shelters, barbecues, and walking trails managed by SunWater, providing one of the few public amenities in the area. The submerged former gold-mining township of Paradise, which dates to 1889, lends the locality a degree of historical interest. Residents rely on nearby Biggenden to the south-east and Mundubbera for everyday services and schooling, as the locality itself has no commercial infrastructure.
Coringa falls under postcode 4621 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Maryborough electorate.
