Coulta is a small rural township on the lower Eyre Peninsula of South Australia, located approximately 293 kilometres west of Adelaide and 60 kilometres north-west of Port Lincoln, within the District Council of Lower Eyre Peninsula. Established in 1877 and named from the Nauo word Koolta meaning spring, the township covers a large land area of around 335 square kilometres and has a 2021 Census population of 213. The locality sits within the Eyre Western region, characterised by open mallee scrubland, wheat and sheep farming country, and the vast coastal plains that border the southern Eyre Peninsula.
