About Dajarra
Dajarra is a remote outback town in north-west Queensland, situated approximately 100 kilometres south-west of Mount Isa in the Cloncurry Shire. With a population of around 184 people, Dajarra is a small, isolated community set in the vast semi-arid Mitchell grasslands of western Queensland. The town serves as a service hub for surrounding cattle stations and is home to a significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
Life in Dajarra revolves around the pastoral industry, with beef cattle grazing on the extensive plains surrounding the town forming the backbone of the local economy. The community has limited services including a school and basic amenities, while the remote landscape offers a rugged, authentic outback experience. Dajarra is located on the Georgina Highway, providing a vital road connection to Mount Isa to the north and Boulia to the south along the iconic outback highway network. The town has a strong Indigenous cultural heritage, with the local Kalkadoon and Mitakoodi peoples having deep connections to the surrounding country.
