About Denbarker
Denbarker is a small rural locality in the Shire of Plantagenet in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, situated approximately 360 kilometres south of Perth along Albany Highway. The locality lies between the towns of Mount Barker to the north and Denmark to the south-west, covering around 201 square kilometres of gently rolling farmland and bushland. With a recorded population of just 93 residents in the 2021 Census and roughly 32 dwellings, Denbarker is a very thinly settled rural area with a quiet agricultural character.
The locality borders the Mount Roe National Park to the south-west and Mount Lindesay National Park to the south, providing a bushland backdrop for properties in the area. Denbarker has historical connections to the post-World War II soldier settlement scheme, as does nearby Rocky Gully. Bouverie Vineyard, one of the first commercial vineyards planted in the Plantagenet wine region, is located in the area. Residents rely on Mount Barker (approximately 20 kilometres to the north) and Albany (around 70 kilometres to the south) for everyday services, shopping, and healthcare.
Denbarker falls under postcode 6324 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Warren-Blackwood (South West) electorate.
