About Forest Hill
Forest Hill is a rural locality in the Shire of Plantagenet in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, situated approximately 327 kilometres south-east of Perth and around 27 kilometres west of the regional centre of Mount Barker. The locality covers approximately 208 square kilometres, with the Muir Highway and the Hay River both passing through the area. With a 2021 Census population of 143, the locality is notably male-skewed (116 males to 35 females), largely attributable to the presence of Pardelup Prison Farm — a 2,600-hectare minimum-security correctional facility operating within the locality.
Forest Hill is rich in natural assets, encompassing the Pardelup, Pardelup Road, Kwornicup Lake, and Wamballup Nature Reserves, which protect significant areas of native bushland and wetlands within the Great Southern region. The nearby town of Mount Barker provides all essential services including schools, shops, and healthcare, while Albany — the major regional centre — is roughly an hour's drive further south. The locality's character is defined by its rural farmland, karri and marri forests, and the ecological significance of its nature reserves.
Forest Hill falls under postcode 6324 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Warren-Blackwood (South West) electorate.
