About Eganu
Eganu is a sparsely settled rural locality within the Shire of Coorow in Western Australia's Midwest region, situated approximately 215 kilometres north of Perth and around 15 kilometres west of the town of Coorow. Covering a vast 1,389 square kilometres of wheatbelt and pastoral land, the locality is defined by flat to gently undulating terrain near the Lake Eganu feature. With a 2021 Census population of just 70 residents, Eganu is one of the quieter agricultural localities in the Moore region, lying within the federal electorate of Durack.
The economy of the Eganu locality is almost entirely driven by broadacre cropping, particularly wheat and canola, consistent with the surrounding Coorow Shire which is a key contributor to Western Australia's grain export industry. Grain is transported via road and the regional network to the Geraldton port terminal — Australia's second-largest wheat export hub. The coastal town of Greenhead is approximately 75 kilometres west, offering beach access and basic amenities, while Coorow provides the nearest local services including a school, hotel, and general store. Residents of Eganu enjoy an expansive outback lifestyle with clear skies and wide open spaces typical of the WA wheatbelt.
Eganu falls under postcode 6515 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Moore (Agricultural) electorate.
