Ellalong is a rural locality in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, situated at the foot of the Watagan Mountains about 155 km north of Sydney and 12 km south-southwest of Cessnock. Known affectionately as 'The Jewel of the Mountain', the area covers around 35 square kilometres and had a population of approximately 1,351 at the 2021 census. The community has a notably young demographic profile with a median age of just 35, and strong Aboriginal heritage with 117 Indigenous residents. Predominantly Anglo-Australian in ancestry, Ellalong has a close-knit, working-class character shaped by its proximity to the Hunter Valley coalfields.

Ellalong offers a peaceful semi-rural lifestyle within easy reach of the Hunter Valley's world-famous wine country, which lies to the north. The surrounding Watagan Mountains provide excellent bushwalking, mountain biking and nature experiences.
