About Engawala
Engawala is a remote Aboriginal community located approximately 180 kilometres north of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, within the Akityarre ward of the Central Desert Regional Council area. With a population of 164 residents recorded in the 2021 Census, it is a small, close-knit locality covering around 3.8 square kilometres. The community encompasses several outstations including Alatyeye, Mulga Bore, and Angula, sitting at an elevation of around 600 metres on the central Australian plateau.
Engawala is home to a strong Aboriginal community with deep cultural connections to the land, and services are delivered through the Central Desert Regional Council including health and essential community infrastructure.
