About Exford
Exford is a small rural town on Melbourne's western fringe, located within the City of Melton approximately 39 kilometres west of the Melbourne CBD and 6 kilometres south-west of Melton. Set at an elevation of 92 metres on the western and southern banks of the Melton Reservoir, Exford retains a distinct rural character despite its position on the edge of Melbourne's rapidly growing outer west. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 133 residents across its 10.6 square kilometres.
The Melton Reservoir, completed in 1916 to supply the Werribee Irrigation District, is the defining feature of Exford — offering a quiet bush setting and opportunities for walking, birdwatching, and nature appreciation just outside the rapidly urbanising Melton corridor. The nearby suburb of Melton South and Melton town centre provide shopping, schools, and transport links to Melbourne. Exford Primary School serves the local community. The area appeals to those who value semi-rural quiet while remaining within a commutable distance of metropolitan Melbourne.
Exford falls under postcode 3338 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Werribee (Western Metropolitan) electorate.
