About Flinders Chase
Flinders Chase is a locality on the remote south-western tip of Kangaroo Island, South Australia, approximately 110 kilometres west of Kingscote and 210 kilometres south-west of Adelaide. It is best known as the site of Flinders Chase National Park, one of Australia's most significant wildlife sanctuaries covering nearly 598 square kilometres of pristine native bushland and dramatic Southern Ocean coastline. The area has no permanent residential population recorded at census, functioning primarily as a national park zone.
Visitors come to Flinders Chase to experience iconic natural attractions including Remarkable Rocks — a collection of granite boulders perched on a dome above the sea — and Admirals Arch, a spectacular natural rock arch inhabited by a New Zealand fur seal colony. The park shelters abundant native wildlife including kangaroos, Tammar wallabies, short-beaked echidnas, and glossy black-cockatoos. Park rangers and conservation workers are the main human presence, making Flinders Chase a destination for eco-tourism and wildlife enthusiasts rather than permanent settlement.
Flinders Chase falls under postcode 5223 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Mawson electorate.
