About Fly Creek
Fly Creek is an outer rural locality within the Darwin region of the Northern Territory, situated in the Litchfield municipality approximately 60 to 80 kilometres from Darwin's city centre. The locality covers around 33 square kilometres and recorded a population of 189 in the 2021 Census. It takes its name from a watercourse identified by surveyor William Harvey during George Goyder's 19th-century surveying expeditions, when flies were reportedly abundant in the vicinity. The area falls under Litchfield Council and is classed as a rural residential and agricultural locality.
Fly Creek reflects the broader Litchfield lifestyle that combines rural residential living with horticultural, agricultural, and small-scale industrial interests — all set against the dramatic tropical landscape of the Top End. Properties in the area tend to be large acreage blocks, and residents enjoy proximity to Litchfield National Park's famous waterfalls, rock pools, and bushwalking trails. There is no public transport, and private vehicles are essential for day-to-day life. Darwin city provides the nearest range of retail, medical, educational, and entertainment services.
Fly Creek falls under postcode 822 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Spillett electorate.
