About Framlingham
Framlingham is a small rural locality in south-west Victoria, situated along the Hopkins River approximately 25 kilometres north of Warrnambool and within the Moyne Shire council area. With a population of around 169 residents spread across a large area of approximately 46 square kilometres, it has a predominantly agricultural character of grazing and farming land. The locality carries significant historical importance as the site of the Framlingham Aboriginal Reserve, established in the 1860s and today home to the Framlingham Aboriginal Trust — one of Australia's longest-standing Aboriginal community reserves.
The surrounding landscape features the scenic Hopkins River corridor and open farmland characteristic of Victoria's Western District. The nearby town of Kolora and the larger centre of Warrnambool to the south provide residents with access to schools, shops, hospitals, and coastal amenities including Warrnambool's famous whale-watching season. Framlingham offers a deeply rural lifestyle with strong connections to both Aboriginal cultural heritage and the pastoral traditions of south-west Victoria, making it a place of considerable historical and natural significance.
Framlingham falls under postcode 3265 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the South-West Coast (Western Victoria) electorate.
