About Glen Allyn
Glen Allyn is a small rural locality on the Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland, situated approximately 13 kilometres south-east of Malanda, 32 kilometres south-east of Atherton, and around 83 kilometres south-south-west of Cairns. The locality falls within the Tablelands Regional Council area and has a population of 109 residents spread across approximately 40 square kilometres of fertile, elevated plateau country. The Atherton Tablelands' rich volcanic soils and cooler climate have made the region well-suited to agriculture and dairying.
Glen Allyn is notably associated with the Nerada Tea Plantation, one of Australia's best-known commercial tea estates, which has operated in the area since the early twentieth century and remains a landmark attraction on the Tablelands. The surrounding locality is characterised by lush green farmland, rainforest remnants, and the cool, misty character typical of the tablelands. Residents access services in Malanda and Atherton, while Cairns is reachable within about an hour's drive for larger retail and medical needs.
Glen Allyn falls under postcode 4885 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Hill electorate.
