About Glenmorgan
Glenmorgan is a small rural town in the Western Downs Region of Queensland, located approximately 385 kilometres west of Brisbane on the Surat Development Road between Surat and The Gums. The town sits within a vast agricultural landscape, with the surrounding district devoted largely to dryland cropping, cattle grazing, and oil and gas extraction. Named after Godfrey Morgan, a former member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly, Glenmorgan was established in the early twentieth century as a service hub for the surrounding pastoral stations.
With a population of just 121 residents, Glenmorgan is a tight-knit community where neighbours know each other well and community spirit is strong. The town offers basic amenities including a hotel and general store, and is notable for its petrified wood deposits, which attract fossickers and curious visitors travelling the outback road network. Life here is quintessentially rural Queensland — quiet, self-reliant, and deeply connected to the land.
Glenmorgan falls under postcode 4423 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Warrego electorate.
